Slowly going friends-only

Also as a note, I'm starting to move this journal over to friends only. Not for any sort of melodramatic reason, but because come August, I'm going to be a TA and I'm thinking any students I end up having probably don't have any business being in my LJ anyway. There's a lot of innocuous stuff, but I've also had this LJ for... holy shit, over seven years. That's a few too many entries to comb through one at a time. Right now I've just locked everything from January 1 of this year and older.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to go completely locked down from here on out, or if I'm going to go on a case by case basis (and lock my twitter diarrhea because we all know that makes up 90% of my LJ content these days anyway). I've still got plenty of time to decide either way.

I actually did go look at some of my older entries, just for shits and giggles. The really odd ones to read were the political ones. Because in some ways I've changed a crazy amount, and in some ways I really haven't.

Though I suppose, generally speaking, if I were the exact same person I was 5 or 6 or 7 years ago, I'd probably have cause to worry.

Well, whatever you do, I hope you don't quit LJ for twitter or something.

I'm thinking it might be best to lock down completely, just to ensure you keep your students completely out of it. Especially with political posts and such, I think it could cause problems.

I think I'd had my journal for six years or so when I finally locked it down fully. It took me days to get it all done.

The nice thing is, LJ now has a security so you can mass lock posts. XD Took it like 20 minutes to do all of mine last night...

Is this the right time to de-lurk and ask to be put on the filter :)

I think I found your journal through pewterfish.

There's probably nothing wrong with your students seeing breezy, chatty posts about daily life stuff. Just lock anything you think might cause controversy. And yes, there are some people who will take anything as controversial ... but those people are idiots, and their opinions aren't worth considering.

Yeah, I'm thinking I just need to re-do loudtwitter so it comes automatically locked, and that way I don't have to worry about what I'm say there. The rest of everything can be case by case...

I had to lock mine as it is now possible/likely that employers can/will look for it.
